DR. ALISON THOMPSON

Dr. Alison Thompson is a humanitarian incident commander running large refugee camps, field hospitals and resilience hubs in natural and man-made disasters around the world for the past 22 years, including the Syrian and Venezuelan refugee crisis.

 

Dr. Thompson founded Third Wave Volunteers first responders on Sept 11th, 2001, in NYC where she worked as a first responder for 9 months.

Third Wave Volunteers are a disaster relief non-profit set up to mobilize medical and non-medical responders and sustainable aid to underserved and affected communities and has grown to over 30,000 first responders world-wide.

 

Dr. Thompson’s award-winning documentary, The Third Wave, chronicles her volunteer experience in Sri Lanka after the 2004 tsunami and was screened at the 2008 Cannes film festival presented by Sean Penn and Bono.

 

She followed up with a book, The Third Wave Volunteer Story.

 

Their Motto is “Everyone’s Needed”

In 2010 Thompson was awarded the ‘Order of Australia’, the highest civilian medal given by Queen Elizabeth the 2nd for her service to mankind!

Other awards Include:  

  • ‘The Commanders Award’ from General Simeon Trombitas and the 82nd Airborne for her collaboration in Operation United Response Task Force Haiti 

  • The 2019 Florida Governors Hurricane Service Agency award

  • The 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King humanitarian award

  • The Paul Harris award from Rotary International for creating CTEC- the first Community Tsunami Early-warning Disaster Center in Sri Lanka

  • 2020 was appointed to the Board of Mactown Disabled homes and to the Advisory Board of the United Nations Chaplains Assoc.

In 2012 Dr. Thompson was appointed as the official Ambassador to the Haitian Ministry of Environment focusing on reforestation, clean water and sustainable energy.

Dr. Thompson represented Haiti at the COP22  2016 United Nations Climate meetings in Marrakesh where she later helped ratify the Paris Agreement in the Haitian Parliament.

THIRD WAVE VOLUNTEERS first responders provide disaster medical and aid relief, general resilience and CERT training preparedness to those affected by natural and man made disasters around the world by mobilizing medical and non medical first responders. They use sustainable renewable technology in the form of solar lighting and water filtration to help get the job done.
